Geoff Cooper and Julie Lourie founded this practice in 1980 with a simple belief: that quality eye care should be personal, thorough, and delivered by people who know your name.
Our Story
Geoff grew up in Melbourne, where his father owned several optometric practices. He graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1976 with a Masters degree in Optometry, then worked in Adelaide and Perth before co-founding Cooper & Lourie Family Optometrists with his wife Julie in 1980.
Julie grew up in Sydney and graduated from UNSW with a Bachelor of Optometry with Honours in 1976. She worked at a group practice in Perth before starting Cooper and Lourie with Geoff.
From the beginning, delivering quality eye care in a friendly environment has been our priority. We invest in cutting-edge instrumentation and continuing professional development to make sure our patients receive examinations of the highest standard.
Over the decades, we have cared for generations of Perth families. Many of our staff have been with us for years, and they genuinely value the relationships they build with patients.
Our Values
Independence
As an independent practice, we are free to source spectacles and contact lenses from any manufacturer. This means we can recommend the lens design and frame that best suits your visual needs, not the one that delivers the highest margin to a corporate head office.
Clinical Excellence
All five of our optometrists are therapeutically endorsed. They can diagnose eye disease and prescribe medication without you needing a separate referral. We were among the first optometrists in Western Australia to complete the Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics through UNSW.
Continuing Education
Our optometrists regularly attend educational conferences and seminars. Optometry changes rapidly, and we believe our patients deserve clinicians who stay current.

Julie co-founded the practice in 1980 and has built a reputation for thorough, compassionate care. She is passionate about combining the latest equipment with a personal touch.
Dr. Annabel Fothergill
Optometrist
QUT, 2013. Therapeutically endorsed.
Annabel completed her training at Queensland University of Technology and drove across the country to Perth in 2013. She hasn't left since. Her interests include myopia control, contact lens fitting, and the management of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.
Dr. Xenia Gonzalez
Optometrist
QUT, 2007 Honours. Ophthalmic Medicines Prescriber.
Xenia has worked in metro and rural practices across Australia. She came to Perth for a work trip and never left. Her particular interests are myopia management, dry eye management (including IPL treatment), and complex contact lens fittings such as orthokeratology.
Dr Blagica Danilov
Optometrist
Doctor of Optometry (UWA). Therapeutically endorsed.
Blag was born and raised in Perth and started her eye-care journey at Cooper and Lourie, working as a dispenser while studying at the University of Western Australia. Since graduating, she has worked across Western Australia and brings a thorough, personalised approach to patients of all ages.
